Phil Wilson - 'I love this area'

Phil Wilson, Labour's local man & candidate in the Sedgefield by-election embarked on a community weekend today, meeting community groups and residents from all parts of the constituency.

Phil Wilson said:

"This weekend is about a celebration of every community in this area.

"Today we have been at a local UNICEF fundraiser in Aycliffe, showing that this area, like me, not only cares about tackling poverty here, but also across the world.

"I will be out and about in Aycliffe, Woodham, Thornley, Cornforth, Sedgefield, Ferryhill, Fishburn, Wheatley Hill, Wingate and Chilton over the weekend meeting community groups, local people and making sure that they know I will listen and get done what they need doing. I am proud to say I will have been to every single area in the constituency by Monday night.

"This is a great place to live. I have lived here all my life and love it here. I care passionately about all our communities and all the great people I am meeting. I am bumping into people I went to school with, worked with and meeting new friends doing great work in their villages and towns.

"But we need to carry on this good work. Last night I was out and about with the police patrolling the villages and towns getting to know exactly why the powers Labour has brought in are so important to tackling Anti-social behaviour. It amazes me that the Lib Dems are on the side of gangs and soft on drugs, they should see the damage done by small groups of thugs. I am on the side of the law abiding majority and always will be and I think it is important that people know that the Lib Dems would back criminals over local people."

On a walkabout in Newton Aycliffe Phil Wilson, Labour's Local man, speaking to local shoppers reiterated his commitment to sorting out Newton Aycliffe town centre:

"My office is going to be in the town centre, I am going to be in the town centre. We will not put up with any more delays to what we all want, a revitalised place to work, to visit and to live.

"My interests are your interests, my priorities are your priorities and together we will get what we need and what we deserve, a vibrant & modern Newton Aycliffe town centre."
